Beschreibung:
Imagery Rescripting (ImRs) is a technique that can be used across various disorders, either as stand-alone treatment or as part of a treatment package. In essence, the technique involves activating an emotional memory, and next imagining that the events that are part the memory are changed into a desired direction. Over the years, the technique has been protocolized and submitted to empirical tests, both in the lab and in clinical trials. A wide range of studies, from qualitative to controlled lab studies, have helped us to better understand what the underlying mechanisms are and how the application of the technique can be improved. A recent paper describes the updated insights and present the current protocol as it can be applied as a trauma treatment. This ImRs application has been tested in large clinical trials and found to be an highly effective and acceptable treatment.
In this presentation I will briefly summarize the most important aspects of the updated application, including the following issues:
- What the process underlying ImRs is (and what it is not)
- The use of standard questions to help clients to process the memory and the rescripting
- Why to go to the hotspot in the memory and how to deal with multiple hotspots
- When to deviate from the basic rule to start the rescripting after activation of the hotspot
- How to actively reattribute guilt and shame
- Why to start with therapist rescripting and let the client do the rescripting in het second half of therapy
- Whether or not aggression is allowed in the rescripting
- Why to end the rescripting with a positive experience
- How to avoid installation of false memories
In the second part of the meeting participants can ask questions that help them to further clarify the clinical application.
